Introduction:
Create a simple yet beautiful paper plate flower wreath made from items usually found in the house or the grocery store. For this wreath project, we are going to use paper cups to make beautiful daisy flowers. It is an easy activity to make for kids and teenagers to enjoy doing. Once finished, you may hang it using a string or stick it on a flat surface using tape. Now let’s get crafting!
Tools
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Optional: Puncher and String
Supplies
- Paper Plate
- Paper cups
- Glue
- Yellow and Green paint
Shape the frame of the paper flower wreath
Get a piece of a paper plate and fold it in half.
Cut a half-moon shape using a pair of scissors. Follow along the dashed line as illustrated in the picture above.
Unfold the paper plate. For this project, we will only be using the circular paper plate frame. You may discard the inner circle made or recycle it on other crafts.
Paint the paper plate green
To mimic leaves, paint the whole paper plate frame with the color green.
Once you have covered the paper plate with green paint, set it aside and leave it to dry.
Create the flowers using paper cups
Get a piece of paper cup and cut it vertically. Do it on all sides of the paper cup except the bottom. Use the dashed lines illustrated above as a guide.
Your paper cup should now look like the sample image above. Pull down each strip to make the petals of the flower.
Once you have flattened it out, it should look like this in a bird’s eye view. The strips will be the petals of the daisy.
Your paper cup should now look like the sample image above. Pull down each strip to make the petals of the flower.
You have now made a flower using a paper cup. Repeat the procedure on the other cups. It’s up to you how many paper cup flowers you want for your flower wreath. For this activity, we used three to keep things simple.
Paint your daisy
To make your flower paper cups into a daisy, color the inner circle with yellow paint.
If you’re not into daisies, then that’s fine 🙂 Paint the flowers however you like with the color that you prefer. A nice touch would be painting the petals as well with various colors. Explore and be creative.
Your daisy flowers are now done! Time to assemble!
Assemble your paper flower wreath
With some glue, stick the paper flower cups to the wreath frame. It’s up to you where you want to stick it as long as it’s in the frame.
If normal glue cannot stick the wreath and flower together well, you may ask an adult to help you stick it with hot glue.
Your flower wreath is almost done! Time to add some extra decoration.
Paint some daisies
Add some mini daisies by painting 4, making an X dash using white paint. See the above photo for reference.
Then put a dot in the middle using yellow paint. You may use other various colors of paints to make the mini flowers.
Your paper plate flower wreath is now done! Stick it to a wall more. You may hang it with a string.
Attach a string to the flower wreath
Punch a hole on the top part of the wreath.
You may now hang your paper plate wreath!
