How to Make a Cute Paper Plate Duck

Do you want to spend quality time with your kids? And do you also want them to develop their art skills all the while staying in the comforts of your home? Yes, then consider making this paper plate duck!

It’s easy to make and the materials required are easy to find. Also, the end product is fun – it’s literally a DIY toy in the shape of a duck. The paper plate duck makes use of a magnet and paper clip so that it can move around the paper plate.

Make the Duck Pond

The first thing you should do is to get your paper plate and green paint. The smaller circle made up of dashed lines is about two inches smaller in radius compared to the paper plate.

Next, paint the area green outside the smaller circle. Make sure to paint evenly and wait for it to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Paint flowers on the vegetation (green painted space). You can also make other decorations - it's up to you! But in this example, flowers with white petals and yellow centers were made.

Next, get download and print the printable found above. Prepare suitable scissors - for example, a young left-handed child needs a blunt tip left handed scissor.

Cut the printables out of the paper. This step might be hard for younger inexperienced kids so an adult can take over this step.

Next, get your paper plate and glue. The pond will be placed in the center of the plate.

Then glue the pond printable to the paper plate. Where can you find ducks? Well, in freshwater of course! Good job. Time to move the next step.

Attach Clips to the Ducks

In order for the ducks to move, you will use MAGNETS. So, get your duck cut-outs and clips.

Fold the white part found below the base of the duck towards the back side so that a 90-degree angle is formed. Then insert a clip into that part.

Do the same for the other duck. Both birds should be able to stand on their own now. Great job! You are now close to finishing the craft.

Play with the Paper Plate Duck

Place the ducks on top of the paper plate. Don't these ducks look cute int that tiny pond?

Next, get your magnet, popsicle stick and tape. In order to move the ducks, you'll need a magnet.

Attach the magnet to the popsicle stick. This way you can maneuver the duck easily with the use of magnetism.

Finally, use the popsicle stick to move the ducks around. This is how you play with the ducks. The magnets attached and clips will enable the ducks to move with the popsicle stick.
