Introduction:
A paper plate beach ball is one of the easiest arts and crafts that kids can make. But if you want to challenge your kids, you can turn a paper plate into a 3D beach ball. Making something three-dimensional from a humble piece of paper plate can be pretty daunting so here we made a simple step-by-step instruction for you to learn and enjoy.
Tools
- Puncher
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Pencil
Supplies
- Paper Plate
- Poster paints
- Glue
- Split pin
- A small piece of white paper
Cut out the paper plate beach ball
To make a 3D paper plate beach ball, we need to shape the paper plate like a symmetrical flower. Grab a paper plate and fold it in half.
Fold it again in half. Follow along the dashed line as illustrated above.
Again, fold it in half.
Draw a petal shape on the paper plate. Use the dotted line as a guide on how to draw the petal shape.
Cut along the outline made.
Once cut, it should look something like the image above. Unfold the paper plate to reveal the shape made.
Once unfolded, the paper plate should now be formed into a petal shape.
Color the paper plate
Before forming the paper plate into a ball, we need to paint it first. Beach balls are usually multicolored. Grab different colors of paint (we chose, red, yellow, yellow-green, and blue), and let’s start painting!
You may follow how we will paint the paper plate or you can paint it however you like.
First, paint two petals with red paint that are across from each other.
Then paint the next petal the red with some yellow paint.
Next, we painted the two petals that are across each other with green paint.
Lastly, paint the remaining two petals with blue paint.
Once you are done painting the paper plate, let it dry fully before proceeding to the next step.
Punch some holes on the paper plate ball
Grab a puncher and punch a hole on each outer end of the petal.
Once you have punched a hole on each of the petals, it’s time to form it into a ball.
Form the paper plate beach ball
To form the ball you need to join all ends of each petal to the center of the paper plate.
Flip the paper plate over and insert a split pin on one of the holes of the petal.
Insert push pin into the next petal.
Keep inserting the split pin on all the petals until it forms a ball.
Secure the ball by splitting the legs of the split pin.
Make the circular valve of the paper plate beach ball.
An inflatable beach ball usually has a circular panel where you inflate air inside. To make one, grab a piece of paper and cut a small circle to make the valve.
Stick the cutout on the center of the beach ball
The paper plate beach ball is done!
